We Begin With An Ending is a novella born out of the fight for racial justice and the ensuing social unrest of 2020. The novel takes place in the near future of 2028 and focuses upon the role of the Police State and the Military Industrial Complex. It examines how the ruling and owning class use fear (both genuine and manufactured) to prevent equality and meaningful liberation. It is a story that is filled with hope. However, the fact that it must do so under the guise of “Sci-fi” reveals the overwhelming power and influence of our current power structures.

The work seeks to process the inertia and inequality of a capitalist landscape fed by neoliberal policies and held together by neoconservative nationalism. In doing so, it is thoroughly steeped in the cognitive dissonance of the moment, where everything around us and within us seems as if it has changed, but in reality nothing meaningful has changed (or even seems capable of changing). It provides a glimpse into what a future that successfully breaks free of our current confines might look like, and the potential that lies beyond the restrictive horizons of the status quo. As of yet unpublished, R.M. Green is actively seeking opportunities to share the novel with readers.
