29. Soft Hair - “Lying Has To Stop”

As their album artwork indicates, Soft Hair is a unique band. They have their own style, a sort of bridge between the past and the present, firmly steeped in progression yet fully tinged in nostalgia. They do them, paying homage to the music they love while letting the creative juices flow wherever they may lead int he process.

This jam in particular meanders its way through a steady groove, leading the soul through a world of subtle wobbles and falsetto whispers. Its got humor that flirts with parody yet remains firmly rooted in reality, because we’ve all been there. Standing in awe, watching as a relationship falls apart, unsure whether or not we even want to jump into the fray and lay claim to what remains. It’s almost as if they’re deflecting throughout the song, cocooning themselves in a lighthearted humor as a means of avoiding any real confrontation with emotion. They’re like the relationship version of the person who only offers to get up and grab something after you’ve already gotten up to grab it. They don’t really care, and even if they do, they do everything in their power to show that they don’t. They’re bastards, but I mean look at that album art. Did you honestly expect anything less?
