40. Hater - “Mental Haven”

This jam reminds me of someone meditating amidst the apocalypse. Everything around them is going to shit. The world is in chaos, disintegrating and combusting in violent flames as it spirals out of control. It’s beyond repair or escape, and so instead they retreat into their imagination, leaving the physical web of reality behind to bask in another world – a world of their own making where they actually possess some sense of control and volition.

We all go through our own daily apocalypses. They might not actually be the apocalypse, but in the moment they each carry with them their own unique sense of finality and despair. It’s part of living, a.k.a. the curse of being sentient and being able to reflect upon our experiences and thought. However, along with that curse comes a blessing, because part of the beauty of subjectivity and being able to shape thought is that you can paint reality whichever way you want. You can alter your perspective as you see fit, repurposing, retreating from, or denying the world at will. Just make sure you use that power wisely.
