Negative Gemini - “You Never Knew”
This jam is modern love in a nutshell (as well as synth city). It’s a love that’s kept at arms-length – felt but avoided, unspoken and ignored, played down and sabotaged. It’s a love that intertwines with fear to create a great awkward mess of emotion. A love that weighs you down even as it buoys you. One moment it’s the most real thing in existence, and the next you’re asking yourself whether it ever even existed. It’s masochistic, cowardly, and passionate all at once. It consumes you, slowly eating apart your soul, and sending out fissures through your self-confidence and self-worth. You don’t know whether you enjoy it or hate it. Whether you want to run towards it or away from it. It’s a game of attrition – of saving face and trying to show less love in the hope that it will make the other want to show more. It’s entropy in action and its destined for disaster.
When it does finally end you’ll find yourself drowning within the very ocean of emotion you previously denied. You’ll be torn apart by doubt and regret, and by the fact that the person you loved never knew how you felt about them.
