Top 100 Tracks of 2016
Yes, you read that correctly. It’s almost 2018, which means its finally time for me to release an antiquated and irrelevant list extolling my favorite songs of almost two years ago. However, before I get to that, you’ll all have to wait a little bit longer and suffer me this intro.
Time flies, we all get older and busier, and in the process have less time to engage with all of the hobbies and interests we once loved. It’s a sad development, and an even sadder realization, but the vice of capitalism squeezes, and for the majority of us there’s no escaping the pressure. Our individuality bursts, and our juices seep out to fill in the nice little molds we swore that we would never fit within, and yet here we are, or at least here I am - or almost am. I’d like to believe I’m still holding on to the individuality of my youth, but every now and then I can feel the surface tension getting the best of me. This blog is an example of that. Over this past year, amidst working, the deepening of relationships, writing and editing a book, housework, cooking, reading, worrying about finances, and all that other quotidian jazz of life, this blog has sort of taken a back seat. However, despite it all I could never go without making a Year-end List of my favorite songs. It’s my thing, and so with this list I stick it to the man. It’s my revolution, a minuscule and meaningless revolution, but a revolution nonetheless.
If it’s any consolation to anyone this list has existed within my iTunes since the beginning of the year. So even though I am admittedly late in sharing it with all of you, I wasn’t all that late in creating it. I’m not sure how consoling that is for you as a reader, but it is a bit of a consolation for me, so there’s that. Anyway, enjoy the tunes, my poor use of punctuation, and all of the (dis)associated ramblings that accompany them. Hopefully this list helps uncover some gems that you may have missed back in 2016, or at least breathes new life into songs that should have never lost life to begin with. And now, without further ado, I present all you dawgs and dawgettes with ruffianbandwidth’s Top 100 Tracks of 2016.
