27. The Avalanches - “If I Was A Folkstar (Feat. Toro Y Moi)”
This right here is the jam. There’s something incredibly peaceful yet engaging about it, like daydreaming about a false conversation that has yet to happen. It strikes a chord, some sort of depth that just resonates – especially when Toro Y Moi comes in and brings with him the unspoken bliss that permeates those certain special moments to life.
Such moments are always tenuous, so crystalline and perfect that you recognize every passing second. You’re all of a sudden intensely aware that you’re a mortal swimming within time – or more appropriately drifting down the river of time towards old age and an inevitable death. It’s the realization that everything is transient. You can feel the reality of such a notion suddenly soak your soul and fill everything with an utter sadness, a sort of permanent nostalgia for the past and the present, and even for moments that have yet to pass. It’s the realization that nothing can be held onto indefinitely. Reality is always leaving, breaking down, breaking apart, and dissolving.
