52. Mount Eerie - “Turmoil”
Anybody who has ever been bogged down within the pits of anxiety knows the feeling all too well of finally finding yourself beyond it and free of its clutches. Your inner eye is blinking, trying to readjust as it suddenly realizes where it is. It’s so unexpected, like stumbling upon a whole new world, only it’s an old world, familiar yet foreign. The lens of reality has finally shifted, falling back into alignment and carrying with it a clarity that’s piercingly dull. You’ve known anxiety so long that feeling good now seems wrong. You forgot that it was even possible, or what it was even like. Its so silent and simple. Things are just things, events are just events, there’s no hidden meaning, no giant ominous shadow lingering behind every corner. In this new world you forget what you were even anxious about to begin with. You realize that long ago there ceased to be a reason - the anxiety itself became the reason, the result usurping the cause, creating an ouroboros of mental reflection, where the end never seemed to materialize because the end was the beginning. Then it suddenly comes back, gripping your insides, the self-fulfilling prophecy once again being answered, the end that is the beginning, and you find the lens shifting back, powerless to fight it as you slip back down into your anxious pit.
