53. Mura Masa - “i’ll be alright (tonight)”

Certain reworks have the ability to take a song out of the muck and mud from which it was born and propel it into the sublimity of the heavens. Its a punctuated equilibrium of sorts, an unrealized potential that is suddenly seen, embraced, and perfected.

It’s a beautiful thing to witness, and this song is that beauty at its finest. Mura Masa transforms Childish Gambino’s original, turning heartbreak into something both heavy and minimalistic, like oil and water mixing, until fragility has depth, and pain has beauty. It’s hard to imagine heartbreak done simpler - or better.
