57. Kevin Morby - “Drunk and On a Star”
Morby takes us on a languid stroll through the back alleys of all our almost forgotten memories and the hidden corners of all of our barely whispered aspirations on this track. It’s the sort of song that makes you feel as if you’re on your death bed, silently watching as your entire life goes passing you by, caught within a sort of perpetual solemn smile. There’s a reminiscent bliss to it, a beautiful resignation, as if you’re simultaneously heartbroken that everything that once was has come to a close and is now forever separated from you by the reality of time, and yet at the same time you find yourself glad to be where you are. You’re content with the person the spool of life as unraveled into and grateful for every memory and event that led you here. It’s a beautiful sadness, the type that turns into an awe too powerful to quantify. It just sort of entrances you, holding you together and rending you apart all at once. fr
