56. Homeboy Sandman - “Eyes”

Ever since the release of “Not Really” Homeboy Sandman has reigned supreme over his specific niche of honest and mellow Hip-Hop. It’s a style that stands in complete contrast to the popular aesthetic of the genre, and its because of this that his music is con tinuously so enticing and powerful. He tells it how it is, and the candor with which he does it resonates in such a way that the average person can relate to and appreciate his perspective.

On this track specifically he calls out all of the emcees who attain a little bit of success or fame and then suddenly think that they’re the shit. He also criticizes all of the posturing that is endemic throughout the genre, and he does it all while using his signature calm confidence and incisively clever wit. It’s a pleasure to float along with, especially due to the fact that its accompanied by the subtle bounce of the severely underappreciated Georgia Anne Muldrow’s production. So go ahead and give it a listen, you won’t reget it.
