68. Whitney - “No Woman”

I feel like this track speaks to the whispers of anxious ennui that seem to afflict every young adult sooner or later in life. It’s free yet brittle. It’s the rising cloud of dust and vapor produced by crushing and abrasive weight of adulthood grinding against a naive and carefree childhood. Its recognizing that who you were, who you are, and who you are going to be are three very distinct and inconclusive things. It’s standing at the nexus of the self, and finally truly and deeply realizing and feeling that nothing is guaranteed, and that who you are is incredibly tiny and impotent when compared to the complex web of reality that surrounds you.

However, all is not hopeless, because from within the deterministic grind you find that free will still exists. Its more restricted and confined than you had hoped and once believed it to be – but it still exists. You can pick your way through the web, stretching and pulling at life as you try to make your way through and shape it into something meaningful.
