69. =GUEST= - “Dating Your Friends”
This jam gives voice to the continental shift of a breakup – when Friendship Island parcels off into little municipalities of romance, but those municipalities then inevitably collapse under the weight of entropy. It’s a lo-fi yet shimmering synth-riddled dirge to the ensuing awkwardness, to losing not only a lover, but the friends that surround and intersect with that lover too. It’s realizing that of the couple, you were the less essential, the less significant, and less magnetic of the two. You’re no longer invited to the hang outs and are unwelcome within the social embrace of the past. Instead there’s only brittle silence and cordial vagueness. You’re utterly alone, left to float in the haunting and all encompassing serenity that composes the sea of heartbreak.
