84. Chad VanGaalen - Mind Hijacker’s Curse
This is one of those cinematic jams. The sort that instantly conjures into the imagination scenes of vaguely related characters, actions, and emotions. This song in particular would function as the introduction to a protagonist within some post-apocalyptic world – part dystopian, part fantasy, dark and yet majestic, fast-paced and confusing, but grounded in some unknown but nonetheless underlying sense of soul-defining purpose.
For awhile now I’ve had this dream of starting another blog where I write short stories (although animating a cartoon or some sort of visual effect with subtitles would be the most ideal option, but sadly much more far-fetched for somebody who has no experience in animation whatsoever) that are meant to be accompanied by albums. Stories that use the songs as a loose form of inspiration, almost like a metaphysical setting, a foundation of mood, plot, or narration that is meant to play along and occur concomitantly while another scene and form of dialogue transpire, separate yet connected, almost like a soundtrack, only there is no spoken dialogue, its all in writing, either in subtitles or short story prose, and meant to be read along while listening to the album. I don’t know if any of that makes sense. I’ve always struggled to explain it to people, but the idea has been ruminating ever since Crystal Castles II was released back in 2010. Maybe someday it will actually happen and then this convoluted hodge-podge of run-on sentence word vomit will finally make sense somewhere outside of my mind.
