96. Swan Lingo - “What Did You Learn”

Is Gothic Surf Rock a thing? I’m not sure, but I think this jam provides a strong argument for its existence. Swan Lingo Perfectly blends the ethereal, reverb-laden darkness of a Medieval Cathedral with the playful bliss of a sand-strewn beach. It calls both sets of imagery to mind, molding and blending the two together until they’re no longer distinguishable or separable. It’s a cloudy day that never breaks or an afternoon spent trying to get comfortable while sunbathing on volcanic rocks, but its also the suppressed humanity of a brow-beaten sycophant, a crisis of faith or a renaissance of heart, a mind longing for salvation, gazing into the light even as it feels itself sinking beneath the weight of existence.
