ABADABAD - "THE WILD" EP
ABADABAD is one of the projects of Jeremy Lee Given, his other project has a less inventive band name, with Given simply just opting to use his name. Given is from Knoxville, Tennessee, however from listening to his music you wouldn’t really guess that. His music carries with it a much more laid back, California-esque feel to it, that makes it sound like it was written on the beach. This is especially true of the music done under the ABADABAD pseudonym, while the music created using his other moniker does infuse a more southern vibe to it.
ABADABAD makes chill summer stoner rock, where every track has the perfect amount of fuzziness. His songs send your conscience floating along a sunny path as you listen to Given’s voice, drenched in the ideal amount of reverb, caress instrumentals that aren’t drowned out in fuzz, but perfectly coated in it. The music never drones, but is rather quite peppy as it bounces along, and as a result will make you want to simultaneously dance, while also just wanting to vibe out to it with your eyes closed on some sunny beach.
“The Wild” EP just further solidifies ABADABAD’s reputation in my eyes. Every track on it is pleasant in its own way, with some standouts being “White Lies”, “Will She Remember Me?” and “All The Bros Say”. So go ahead and give it a listen and enjoy its fuzzy goodness. The EP can be downloaded at his bandcamp, and while you’re at it check out the bandcamp for his other project. His OLD FLAMES LP was one of my favourite albums of last year.
