"Let Friedman Ring!" T-Shirt
This shirt is about Milton Friedman and the so-called "economic miracle" of Neoliberalism. For those who have never heard of the term, Neoliberalism is the primary reason that none of us, but especially countries that continue to be underdeveloped and overexploited within the Global South, can have nice things (and the few nice things we still do have in the US often only exist because corporations are able to satisfy their hunger for profit by abusing people in the Global South even more so than those of us in the Global North). Neoliberalism is also the primary reason why corporate power and wealth inequality have skyrocketed since the 1970s. Additionally, Neoliberal economics coincided with the rise of multiple brutal rightwing US-sponsored dictatorships that repressed democracy, tortured their own citizens, and ultimately resulted in thousands of deaths, disappearances, and refugees.
The art is meant to represent how corporate-backed US foreign policy halted South American development, privatized their public wealth and common resources at bargain prices, and then gaslighted them with anti-communist propaganda about freedom. In reality, "freedom" always meant the freedom for finance capital to appropriate, speculate, and extract wealth without regulations or taxation.
So if you've ever wanted a niche economics t-shirt, now's your chance!
