51. HINDS - “And I Will Send Your Flowers Back”
I didn’t realize this until I started to write, but I feel like this jam is the perfect counter-narrative to the previous track. If Porches provided the male perspective, then HINDS provides the female point of view and gives voice to the other end of the split tether. Its a raw and mournful track, full of a perpetual and pervasive gloom, and yet there remains a brittle and electric passion lingering underneath. It’s apologetic, but amidst the weight of the regret rests an acceptance – a sort of fatalistic embrace of what must be. The relationship is deteriorating. She’s caught within the entropy of love and she can feel it. She’s staring it down and all that she can do is let it run its course. They’re destined to break down, to fall to pieces and drift away.
