54. Noname - “Reality Check (Feat. Eryn Allen Kane & Akenya)”

Noname is a poet above all else. She has a way with words, conjuring images and feelings in a raw and authentic way, almost as if they’re bundled up inside of her just waiting to be released. However, its not only the content of her words, but the way in which she conveys them. Her voice is genuinely soothing, so much so that it feels as if she could replace your own conscious thought without any sort of disruption – that’s how natural it feels. She has a flow like honey. It’s smooth yet thought provoking, familiar and known, and yet at the same time wholly unknown. It’s modern soul. There’s a depth to it – a sadness infused with strength and a wit wrapped within anxiety. You can feel the demons being fought and imagine the inner struggle unfolding within like one of those slow motion scenes from the Matrix or a wrestling match in space. Its an introvert in turmoil, riding the waves of chaos and disruption with a veneer of cool, continuously pressing forward at a methodical and languid pace that refuses to be overly rattled. It’s inspiring, and a thing of beauty to witness.
